Homeless Moms in S.F. Treated to Brunch, Music, Gifts

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Mothers at a homeless shelter in San Francisco were pampered and treated to brunch in honor of Mothers Day.

Moms and their kids were treated to a VIP brunch of street tacos, sausage, bacon and egg frittata and strawberry French toast.

The head chef is actually something of a celebrity himself.

Jason Corbin is the creator of "Dads That Cook," an online cooking show where he joins fathers as they show off their cooking talents for their families. Sunday's meal was all about the mothers.

"You meet some really incredible people that are deserving, that are really good at what they do, who love their family," Glover said.

Nicole Jacobs took time out from eating breakfast to call her own mom. Jacobs said it wasn't easy to bring her daughter here but she's using Hamilton Families center as a first step toward a better life and she appreciates those who are helping her in the journey.

"I'm not a ashamed to be here, I'm grateful this place is open. I'm grateful to the people that are doing this for us because we are being recognized. We are being told, 'hey, you are somebody and you are special,'" Jacobs said.

Event organizers said there are more than 1,300 families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. Hamilton Families shelter provides immediate support to families so they can build long-term stability, organizers said.

After breakfast, the mothers got beauty tips by makeup artists from Bloomingdales and a Bloomies gift bag with that included an invitation for a San Francisco outing for their family.

The shelter is located at 260 Golden Gate Ave. in San Francisco.
