Holidays Mean Brisk Business For Vallejo Recycling Centers
VALLEJO (KCBS) - As the holidays start to wind down in the Bay Area, things are starting to heat up at some recycling centers.
VALCORE recycling is tucked away on a side street off Curtola Parkway in Vallejo. General Manager Mark Nichols said that lately he has seen more people turning in bottles and cans for their California Redemption Value or CRV.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"Not only do we do the CRV buy-back, but we also take cardboard, office paper, batteries, toner cartridges and that sort of thing," said Nichols.Nichols says that although he's expecting a bunch of empty champagne bottles after January 1st , unfortunately they do not have a CRV value. Still, he hopes people will put those bottles in the recycling bin to be used as scrap.It's estimated that waste increases by 20 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.VALCORE is not equipped to recycle things like wrapping paper and plastic bubble wrap.
