Teen Bicyclist Struck, Dragged For Blocks In Oakland By Hit-And-Run Driver
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A teenage boy who was riding his bicycle near the Fruitvale BART station was critically hurt Wednesday after being hit by a car and dragged for blocks, police said.
The incident happened along the 1100 block of 35th Ave. Wednesday afternoon. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving calls about the collision; there, they found the boy on the street.
Oakland police said the 14-year-old boy was struck and then dragged for four blocks. He was dislodged from the vehicle when the driver suddenly stopped and was left severely injured.
He was listed in critical condition and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to an OPD public information official.
Officers located the suspect vehicle near the scene of the incident, but it was abandoned. It was later discovered that there was also a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Police did not immediately issue a description of the suspect vehicle, but urged the driver and passenger to turn themselves in.
