Mountain Lion Likely Attacked, Killed Deer In Hillsborough
HILLSBOROUGH (CBS 5 / BCN) -- While mountain lion sightings are quite rare along the Peninsula, there's been several of them in recent days with San Mateo County officials now determining that a mountain lion is likely responsible for the death of a deer.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to reports of a deer lying in the roadway in the 300 block of Robinwood Lane, a residential area of Hillsborough.
Officers on the scene found evidence suggesting that the death could have been the result of a mountain lion attack, emergency officials said.
Mountain lions are predominantly nocturnal and, according the to the California Department of Fish and Game, daylight activity could indicate that the cat was sick or injured.
Although mountain lion sightings are rare in the community, police recommend that residents take precautions when dealing with mountain lions or any other native wildlife living in Hillsborough.
