Hiker From San Rafael Missing In Sierra Nevada
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK (CBS / AP) -- Rescue teams are set to resume searching Wednesday morning for a Bay Area man who disappeared while hiking one of the highest peaks in the Sierra Nevada on Sunday.
Officials said 31-year-old Tom Heng of San Rafael left on what was supposed to be a day hike to the summit of Mount Langley, which stands 14,026 feet, but never returned.
Sequoia National Park spokeswoman Dana Dierkes said Heng made it to the top of the mountain, signing a register at the summit.
At the time he apparently was hiking alone, though Dierkes said earlier in the day Heng was hiking with others.
Two helicopters and staffers from Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks searched for Heng on Tuesday.
They were joined by members of the Inyo County Sheriff's Department.
