Heavy Snow Closes Interstate 5 In Shasta County
MOUNT SHASTA (CBS/AP) -- Officials have closed a section of Interstate 5 in Northern California after a storm dropped heavy snow and led to cars and trucks sliding on the slippery roadway.
The California Highway Patrol on Friday said the highway was closed 10 miles north of Redding in Shasta County, and are advising drivers to use alternate routes.
The National Weather Service said that the storm dropped a foot of snow in some areas, and prompted an avalanche warning for Mt. Shasta.

Chains are being required on I-5 north of the closure area, and a high wind advisory is in effect from Siskiyou County north to the Oregon border.
Forecasters say Mt. Shasta could see 7 feet of snow before the storm moves out on Sunday.
