Health Care Industry In San Francisco Is Booming With Opening Of New Hospitals
The recent celebration of three new hospitals poised to open in San Francisco early next year is yet another clear indicator that the health care industry in the Bay Area is booming.
As part of the new UCSF Medical Center, the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, UCSF Bakar Cancer Center and UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women's are all slated to open in February - yet many positions remain unfilled, including several for health care administrators. And with an aging baby boomer population and more people staying active later in life, the entire health care industry is expected to increase in the current projection from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Thus, the need for medical and health services managers in San Francisco is also expected to increase faster than the national average and the overall healthcare management industry is expected to rise much faster than all other occupations in the country.
Prospective health care administrators generally require at least a bachelor's degree in health administration. However, those candidates who possess a master's degree in health services, public administration, public health and business administration tend to have a better chance of career advancement.
San Francisco students interested in entering a career as a health care administrator don't have to leave the city in order to pursue their collegiate education. The University of San Francisco offers many health care management programs and San Francisco State University has undergraduate programs in health education and public administration. Additionally, the University of California, San Francisco also offers an online master's program in health care. Lastly, many outstanding online health administration programs are also offered through the University of Phoenix, including: associate programs in health administration and health care administration, undergraduate programs such as health information systems and health management, and master's programs such as health administration and a dual degree program of health administration and masters of business administration program.
With a career outlook rising much faster than all jobs in America, students in a health administration academic program or those interested in applying, seem destined to have an excellent chance of securing a rewarding and well-paying job upon graduation. All it takes is a visit to one of the local colleges or an online program with a long history of success, to get started on this rewarding career path.
