Hayward Police Release Sketches Of Suspect In Girl's Attempted Kidnapping
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- [UPDATED 7:50 a.m. Saturday] Hayward police have released sketches of a man who they say tried to pull a 15-year-old girl into his car as she walked home from school on Friday.
The attempted kidnapping took place around 4:00 p.m. near a pedestrian crossing on the 24000 block of Whitman Street, not too far from Tennyson High School. Police said the man suddenly tried to force the 15-year-old girl into his car.
"Yes, he physically put his hands on her. It was very clear in the mind of this young woman that he was trying to take her," Sgt. Mark Ormsby of the Hayward Police Department told KPIX 5.
The girl was able to scream, run away and call 911 from her cellphone.
Police said Friday's incident is very similar to another case, which happened to another high school student on February 20th.
"The description of the male from both individuals seemed to be fairly close to one another. We have found that there was a white sedan involved," Ormsby said.
Police said the victim in this case did everything right. "I think she did a really good job. She should be commended for her actions of making noise and not being a willing victim just to jump into this vehicle," Ormsby said.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with a tan complexion, short brown hair, a scruffy short beard and no mustache. He was around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and 140 to 150 pounds with a
skinny build. He was wearing a gray shirt, black knee-length shorts, orange athletic shorts and sandals.
He was last seen driving a white sedan, described as a newer model white four-door Honda Civic, with a light blue dealer plate on the rear.
