Hayward Lifts Ban On Restaurant Happy Hours
HAYWARD (CBS 5) – For years, the city of Hayward prohibited restaurants from having happy hour. But after numerous complaints, city leaders have reversed the ban.
Restaurant owners have said the ban, which has been in effect for six years, was hurting business.
During a six-month trial period, restaurants can offer food and drinks at a discount between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Restaurants are also permitted to have live music until 10 p.m., but dancing is not allowed. City leaders hope to craft a permanent policy before the trial period ends.
The city of 145,000 people is hoping happy hour will lead to more people dining downtown.
