Hayward Girl Shot At Home; Delay In Reporting To Police
HAYWARD (KCBS) — A 10-year-old girl was injured in a shooting at a home in Hayward early Thursday morning, police said.
Residents at the home on Tampa Avenue near Cortez Street told police that the house was struck with bullets at around 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
Police, however, told KCBS that the residents there did not place a call until around 7:40 a.m.
The responding officers found bullet marks on the home when they arrived.
The girl was hit by a single bullet but her injuries were not life-threatening, according to police. Detectives said they were looking into why there was a delay in reporting the incident.
"We have no clue what prompted them to wait," Hayward police Lt. Mark Stuart said.
Multiple shell casings were found outside the home but no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, he said.
