Hayward Domestic Disturbance Ends With Police Fatally Shooting Father
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A knife-wielding man in a Hayward apartment was fatally shot by a police officer Wednesday night, a police lieutenant said.
At 9:23 p.m. police received a 911 call from a young girl reporting a domestic dispute between her parents. Loud yelling could be heard in the background of the call, Hayward police Lt. Mark Stuart said.
"The young caller had advised police that the father had armed himself and was threatening her mother," Stuart said.
Police officers responded to the residence from which the girl had called, located in the 2100 block of West Tennyson Road, near St. Rose Hospital.

A violent confrontation was occurring inside the apartment when police arrived, Stuart said.
A man armed with a knife lunged at a Hayward police officer. Fearing for his safety and the safety of those in the apartment, the officer fired at least one round at the man.
The man was struck by the gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, Stuart said.
According to Stuart, the man was 37 years old and was believed to be residing at the residence where the dispute had occurred.
The identity of the deceased man had not been released and the incident remained under investigation Thursday morning.
