Gunshot Victim Plows Car Into Oakland Home

OAKLAND (AP) - Oakland police evacuated several residents after a shooting victim crashed into a house, struck a gas line and caused a gas leak.

Sgt. Tim Nolan said the man was shot while driving a minivan in East Oakland around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

The victim, who has not been identified, suffered from severe head trauma and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

The Oakland Tribune reports that 10 residents were evacuated while crews from Pacific Gas & Electric Co. worked to cap the leak.  The residents were being sheltered in a bus.

The cause of the shooting was under investigation.
