Gun-Toting Livermore Bank Robber Eludes Police
LIVERMORE (CBS / BCN) -- Police asked for the public's help in locating the man who robbed a Livermore bank on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency calls reporting the robbery in progress at the Bank of America at 1748 Railroad Ave. came in about 2:30 p.m., police said, and police were simultaneously alerted that the bank's robbery alarm had been activated.
The robber waited in the bank teller line, and once he made it to the front of the line he confronted the teller with a gun and demanded money, police said.
The man, described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic man, ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. No getaway vehicle was seen, police said.
Police created a perimeter around the bank and secured the facility before receiving information that the suspect was entering Interstate Highway 580 heading west toward Castro Valley.
Officers followed the robber's trail to an apartment complex in Oakland near Piedmont. Another perimeter was set up, and the California Highway Patrol and Oakland police assisted in a search of the area, which failed to yield the man.
The gunman, who was captured on surveillance video, is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds, police said.
