Guide To The 36th Annual Mill Valley Film Festival
The 36th Annual Mill Valley Film Festival runs October 3 through the 13 at various venues in Marin County. Mark Fishkin, Founder of the Mill Valley Film Festival and Executive Director of the California Film Institute along with CBS Radio's Liz Saint John sat down and talked about the the events that will revolve around the 36th year of one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

Opening Night features two movies at different venues. A special screening of Gavras' latest work "Capital" will be followed by a career reflecting conversation with the honoree and actor Peter Coyote (A Walk to Remember/E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial).

In the new film, "Dallas Buyers Club" multi-talented actor and musician Jared Leto portrays "Rayon" a HIV positive transexual woman who partners with "Ron Woodroof," played by Matthew McConaughey, to smuggle alternative medicine. MVFF's Spotlight program feature a conversation with Jared Leto and a screening of Dallas Buyers Club. Jared Leto will be presented with the MVFF Award, designed by acclaimed Mill Valley artist Alice Corning.

In a MVFF first, director Steve McQueen & British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will both be presented with the MVFF Award. Spotlight will feature a conversation with the "12 Years a Slave" and an after party with food and wine to follow. British filmmaker Steve McQueen won the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his first feature film 2008's "Hunger." His next film "Shame" which starred Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan was an uncompromising drama about sexual addiction.

"Beside Still Waters" is directed by Chris Lowell, better known as an actor in films like "The Help" & "Up In The Air" and TV shows "Veronica Mars and "Private Practice."
