Group Of Santa Clara County Pot Clubs Raided
SAN JOSE (AP) -- Santa Clara County authorities on Thursday raided a group of medical marijuana clubs operating in the county.
An official with the County Special Enforcement Team said narcotics agents served warrants on two MediLeaf medical marijuana clubs in San Jose and properties in Gilroy and Morgan Hill.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Task force commander Danielle Ayers said agents shut down the clubs, seized marijuana, documents and computers.
The San Jose Mercury News reports the raids came on the same day Jonathan Mitchell, the owner of a competing dispensary, surrendered on charges of money laundering and possession of marijuana for sale.
Mitchell was released on bail after pleading not guilty.
The newspaper said since medical marijuana clubs began expanding in the area about a year ago, dozens of other dispensary owners have been arrested, but have not faced criminal charges.
