Big-Rig Spills Gravel On Bay Bridge Upper Deck
OAKLAND (BCN) - A large amount of gravel spilled Saturday morning from a big-rig traveling on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge, prompting the closure of lanes on the bridge for nearly three hours, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The gravel spill was reported around 5:40 a.m. in the far right westbound lane of the bridge on its incline to Treasure Island, CHP Officer A. Paulson said.
Caltran crews responded and closed two more lanes while they cleaned up the gravel, leaving just the two left lanes open, Paulson said.
All lanes of the bridge reopened shortly before 8:35 a.m. after the cleanup effort was completed, CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.
