Grass Fire In Vacaville Contained, All Westbound Lanes Of I-80 Reopen
VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- A grass fire in Vacaville that prompted the closure of all westbound traffic on Interstate Highway 80 in Vacaville Friday afternoon has reportedly been contained.
The Dixon Fire Department said the fire, dubbed the Midway Fire, was burning in the area of Midway Raod and Gentile Lane.
Solano News and Info Network reported the fire was at four alarms and fire crews were working at two different scenes, one at a brickyard near the westbound side of the I-80 and second fire along the eastbound side of the freeway near Lewis Road.
The California Highway Patrol reported the fire was causing a severe traffic alert along Interstate 80. Westbound vehicles were being diverted off the highway at the Midway Road exit and traffic was severely backed up in both directions in the area.
Motorists were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area. There was no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
At around 4:15 p.m., the Solano News and Info Network Twitter account posted that a Vacaville Fire official confirmed that the fire had been contained at 90 acres.
The news source also reported that one firefighter had sustained a shoulder injury during the incident.
511.org's Twitter account posted that all westbound lanes of I-80 had reopened as of shortly before 4:30 p.m.
