Power Line Sparked Small Grass Fire Near Woodside

WOODSIDE (CBS SF) --  A downed power line sparked a vegetation fire near San Mateo County's Huddart Park and caused a small power outage in the area Friday afternoon, according to PG&E and Cal Fire.

The fire, reported around 2 p.m. Friday, was sparked after a tree came down on a power line on the Phleger Estate grounds, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area outside of Woodside, Cal Fire Division Chief Rich Sampson said.

While crews made aerial drops over the fire, the wooded area was difficult to access and it took about an hour for ground crews to run hose lines the 200 yards down a hill and through bushes to the fire, Sampson said.

After that, it took about an hour to bring the roughly 50-foot by 50-foot fire under control, he said.

PG&E spokesman Jason King said once the fire was under control PG&E crews could repair the downed line. About 30 customers were affected by the outage.
