Gov. Brown Files Papers To Run For 4th Term, Touts Jobs Record
OAKLAND (CBS / AP) — Gov. Jerry Brown touted his record on jobs and education as he formally filed for re-election, responding to the campaign themes of a Republican opponent.
Neel Kashkari, a former U.S. Treasury official who oversaw the bank bailout, is challenging Brown by focusing almost exclusively on creating jobs and improving education.
Brown spoke to reporters Friday as he formally filed papers in Alameda County to run for re-election. He said California has added nearly 1 million new jobs, raised the minimum wage and boosted vocational training under his watch.
The Oakland Tribune reports that Brown said he will focus on maintaining a balanced budget and restraining spending if re-elected. The Democratic governor says other priorities include a new school funding formula and the shift of certain prisoners to county jails.
