Google-Owned Company Funding Moffett Field Hangar Repairs
MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS) - The effort to save Moffett Field's Hangar One appears to be bearing fruit. Google execs are offering to pay for the restoration costs of the landmark, which is in dire need of some TLC.
Toxic panels on the historic hangar are in the process of being removed. Total cost of repairing the hangar is estimated at$33 million.
H211, a company controlled by Google's founders, parks 8 privately owned jets at Moffett Field. H211 has agreed to pony up 100% of the restoration costs.
Steve Williams, with the Save Hangar One Committee, has always felt that something could be worked out.
"This has been a long battle. This is just one more step. I think that we have the arguments on our side to preserve the building. So I'm optimistic that we'll get this done," an elated Williams said.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
One hurdle does need to be cleared first - specifically, NASA needs to approve H211's proposal.
