Google's Alphabet Drops 'Don't Be Evil' Mantra From Code Of Conduct
MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- Google's new parent company Alphabet has decided not to continue the mantra of 'Don't be Evil' that was spelled out in Google's official code of conduct.
Google has often been skewered over it's 'Don't be evil' mantra as its market dominance grew over the years, generating criticism over copyright issues, censorship, privacy and the company's cooperation with U.S. spy agencies.
Google has had the phrase written into its code of conduct nearly since its beginning, which even tech titan Larry Ellison accused Google co-founder Larry Page of breaking.
Page has acknowledged that the company's original goals of dominating Internet searches while not being 'evil' may no longer be applicable to its much loftier goals.
