Golden Gate Ferry Service Cancelled Over May Day Strike
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Now that Doyle Drive has re-opened, Golden Gate Bridge officials are shifting their attention to a May Day strike planned for Tuesday morning. KCBS has learned that Golden Gate Ferry service has been cancelled for Tuesday morning.
The labor union that represents the Golden Gate Bridge District employees including ferry operators has called a strike for Tuesday morning.
Golden Gate Bridge District Spokeswoman Mary Currie confirmed the morning cancellation of service, but said it will resume at 2:15 p.m. Announcements were being made on the boats Monday afternoon for commuters. About 6,000 people will be impacted.

Occupy activists had originally called for shutting down the bridge, but over the weekend union leaders urged them to support picket lines instead.May Day demonstrations are also planned for Oakland, Hayward, and Santa Rosa.

Currie said bridge district officials are coordinating with the California Highway Patrol, Park Police and SFPD
The union workers have been without a contract since June 30th and are fighting increases in health care costs. Their next negotiating session is set for Monday, May 7th.
