Golden Gate Bridge Approach To Shut Down At End Of Month
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The primary connector from downtown San Francisco to the Golden Gate bridge will shut down for a long weekend at the end of the month, leaving drivers to look for other options or avoid the city entirely.
As the Presidio Parkway project nears completion, the Doyle Drive approach will be closed from Thursday, May 28 at 10:00 p.m. through Monday, June 1 at 5:00 a.m.
"Drivers should avoid the closure area and use buses, ferries or the Bay Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge to Highway 1 will remain open; however, expect major delays, especially during Friday commute hours," reads the latest update from the Doyle Drive Project.
During the closure, crews will "finalize roadway connections and transfer traffic to the new permanent roadway."
Alternatives to Dolye Drive are available on the Presidio Parkway Project website.
The final phase of the Doyle Drive replacement stretches from the Marina along Crissy Field to the bridge.
Thousands of tons of gravel, and miles of rebar have gone into the structure, and countless dirt movers and operators have reworked the landscape over the 6-years it has taken to build the $1 billion project.
Traffic that has been going in both directions in one new tunnel for three years will finally spread out.
