Glenhaven Fire near Clear Lake threatens structures, evacuations ordered
Some evactions remained in place Friday evening after a fire broke out and scorched hundreds of acres north of Clear Lake in Lake County.
Shortly after 12 p.m., the agency's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit announced a vegetation fire was burning off Harvey Boulevard in Glenhaven. By 12:45 p.m., the agency said the fire grew to at least 50 acres.
As of about 5:30 p.m., the fire has grown to more than 400 acres, according to Cal Fire. Officials said more than 2,500 structures are threatened.
"The fire continues to spot to the north towards High Valley and the east towards Clearlake Oaks. Air and ground resources are working on picking up the spot fires as well as fortifying control lines mid-slope to keep the fire from backing down towards Highway 20," the agency said in a statement.
For several Highway 20 was closed west of Glenhaven at Paradise Valley and to the east at the roundabout of highways 20 and 53. As of 7 p.m., the road has since reopened.
As of 7 p.m. Friday, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said evacuation orders remain in effect for GLE-E094-B, CLO-E098, CLO-E099 and CLO-E106.
Meanwhile, previous evacuation orders for zones GLE-E094A, GLE-E072, GLE-E073, CLO-E082, CLO-E102 have been reduced to evacuation warnings. The sheriff's office said evacuation warnings have been cleared for zones CLO-E057, CLO-E079 and CLO-E107.
An evacuation shelter has been establsihed at the Twine Pine Casino and Hotel on Highway 29 in Middletown.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
