Glen Park Residents Displaced After Three-Alarm Fire
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— A three-alarm fire damaged or destroyed five duplex units on the 4000 block of Mission in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood, displacing as many as 26 residents Monday morning.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
Reports of the fire first came in around 5:50 a.m. Ei Khing's family was awakened by smoke alarms. "They ran out of the house right away as soon as they saw smoke. They yelled fire," she said.
Deputy Fire Chief Monica Fields said the fire quickly went to three-alarms.
"One person was transported for smoke inhalation and we did retrieve two dogs from the building," said Fields.
Paramedics put oxygen masks on the two Cocker Spaniels before animal control transported them for treatment.
Maria Lopes said it was her sister who suffered from the thick smoke and was taken to the emergency room.
Once it was clear that everyone was out of the burning buildings, fire fighters set out to rescue the dogs and a rabbit. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. The displaced people are being cared for by the Red Cross.
