Pregnant woman killed in head-on crash in Gilroy involving 3 vehicles
A 29-year-old pregnant woman died in a crash near Gilroy on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported at 6:37 p.m. on Leavesley Road east of New Avenue.
Investigators determined that a 50-year-old man was speeding east in a 2008 GMC truck on Leavesley when the truck veered into the westbound lane in the path of a 2021 Chevrolet SUV, resulting in a head-on crash that also involved a 2020 Honda sedan traveling west behind the Chevrolet, CHP officials said.
The 29-year-old woman was a passenger in the Chevrolet and died as a result of the crash. Her name was not immediately available as of Thursday afternoon.
The CHP said alcohol may have played a role in the crash but did not say whether anyone was arrested in the case.
