Giants Success Also A Boon For San Francisco Tourism
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Although the numbers aren't in yet, the San Francisco Giants' winning season is expected to have made a huge impact on the local economy.
The team is already expecting a surge in ticket sales next year.
"We don't know how many of those folks are local and how many are out of town," said Matt Stiker with the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We've worked with the Giants to try to quantify that, but it's a very difficult thing."
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
Stiker said what can be quantified is the impact the team's postseason run had on bars, restaurants and retail in the area.
"If you walked around the city lately and seen all the people wearing orange and black, don't you want to have the orange and black concession right now in clothing and retail?" he said.
Additionally, the parade coverage, which showcased many San Francisco landmarks nationally and internationally, could plant a seed for future visitors.
"The East Coast is experiencing rain right now," Stiker said. "So the idea of an early November, mid-70s day is incredibly appealing."
And that appeal could translate into even more future tourism dollars.
