Giants Sell Limited Supply Of World Series Tickets Online
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - They haven't even made it there yet, but the San Francisco Giants have already putsome World Series seats up for grabs - albeit online, and only a very limited supply of tickets to the theoretical championship game were initially being made available.
Team officials said several hundred thousand people applied to be a part of one of two ticket lotteries. The Giants held one drawing for season ticket holders and another for the general public to determine who would have a chance to buy the highly coveted tickets.
KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:
"It's nicer because instead of 500,000 people hitting a website it might be 5,000. And it's password protected and it's, I think, just a more humane way to buy the tickets," reasoned Russ Stanley, Vice President of Ticket Sales.
"When you live in Sacramento or you're a fan that is in Monterey, it's really not efficient to spend two days up here standing in line hoping that you're going to get a World Series ticket," he added. "We have so few single game tickets that we need to have a controlled environment."
Just a few thousand tickets would be sold online, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Prices started at $100 for bleachers, up to $425 for club seats.
In the secondary market, StubHub.com was already listing standing room tickets for Game 1 of the World Series at nearly $500 Tuesday morning.
