Giants Trade For 2-Time All-Star Hunter Pence
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) - The San Francisco Giants have confirmed that they have acquired Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence in a trade for outfielder Nate Schierholtz and two minor leaguers.
Pence leads the Phillies with 17 HR's and 59 RBI. The two-time All Star will be a free agent at the end of the 2013 season.
The Giants, next-to-last in the majors in home runs, would welcome Pence and his home run output. His total this season is more than anyone on the San Francisco roster.
Pence, a 2-time All-Star with a lifetime batting average of .289 over his 6-year career, is is batting .271 this season with 59 RBIs.

In exchange, the giants have traded Bay Area native Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph, and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced Tuesday.
Schierholtz batted .257 (45-for-175) with five home runs and 17 RBI in 77 games for San Francisco this season. The 28-year-old was the second-longest active tenured Giant behind Matt Cain, having played 10 seasons in the Giants' organization.
Joseph, 21, was the Giants' second round selection in the 2009 draft out of Horizon (Scottsdale, AZ) High School and was regarded as one of San Francisco's top young prospects entering the 2012 campaign. Rosin, 23, went 2-1 with a 4.31 ERA and 10 saves in 34 games for Class A San Jose this season, after being selected by the club in the fourth round of the 2010 draft.
Pence, 29, was traded to Philadelphia from the Houston Astros last summer. The Giants were reportedly interested in acquiring him from Houston in 2011 but instead traded for Carlos Beltran.
Pence will likely become the Giants everyday right fielder.
