Giants Fan Beating Case Transferred To Special LAPD Unit
LOS ANGELES (CBS / AP) ― The Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday transferred its investigation into the beating of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium to a special unit that handles high-profile cases.
The probe into the March 31 beating of Bryan Stow had been coordinated by detectives from the LAPD's northeast division, but the department said its central robbery-homicide unit was now taking over.
Reporter Pete Demetriou:
Police said the demands of the case have become more complex and prolonged, and that robbery-homicide detectives are better equipped to handle it. The unit handles most of the city's celebrity and prolonged cases, such as the death of Michael Jackson.
More than two weeks after Giovanni Ramirez was arrested in the case, he has not been charged, though remains jailed on a parole hold.
