Giants Bandwagon Grows, Memorabilia Sales Spike After Game 1 Win
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The Giants' 11–7 win in Wednesday's Game 1 of the World Series has only swelled the crowd in the team's bandwagon, stoking the desire not just for numbered jerseys and commemorative caps.
"Anything orange. The standard orange tee with an SF on the front? Those are flying out the door. We ran out of orange quick," retailer Sports Authority district manager Jeff Stricker said.
Finding that Buster Posey jersey that's been sold out from Fresno to Chico, and everywhere in between, is still possible. You just have to know where to look.
The line at Sports Authority on Folsom Street on Thursday morning was pretty manageable, considering the orange and black fever sweeping over the Bay Area.
"This store's a little bit quieter during the day, yeah, absolutely," Jeff Stricker, the chain's district manager. In other words, no lines before noon.
"If you were in my San Mateo or Daly City store right now, you'd probably be standing in a group of 30 or 40 people. That's how busy those stores are."
KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:
For some fans, 25 minutes in line at the temporary Giants Dugout store on 3rd and King streets was worth it to bask in the camaraderie and share the mania.
Listen to the KCBS Interview with Joel Hirsch, President of the Mill Valley based American Sports Institute and the former sports psychologist for the San Francisco Giants:
"This is like the nerve center of the giants. Everything happens here. I know oxygen is the same, but the oxygen here is different. This is the AT&T Park oxygen," said Clysley De Sales.
His devotion was tinged with just a hint of superstition. Breathe enough of that air, and soaring to victory seems almost assured.
"I'm giving them good energy. They're giving me back good energy, and I think it's going to happen. I think we're going to get it," De Sales said.
