Gas Line Ruptures At San Jose Apartment Complex
SAN JOSE (CBS 5 / BCN) -- Firefighters and utility crews responded to a gas line rupture at a San Jose apartment complex Monday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 2:46 p.m. at 2811 McKee Road.
SJFD Capt. Chuck Rangel said there was construction taking place on site and that the line appeared to have been ruptured by a backhoe.
A Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesperson told CBS 5 that the ruptured line was a plastic pipeline about 1 1/4 inches thick.
Occupants of 16 apartments were temporarily evacuated, Rangel said, but no injuries were reported.
PG&E said it was able to fix the leak by about 4 p.m., at which time the evacuated residents were allowed to return.
