Gas Leak Shuts Down West Grand Ave. Approach To Bay Bridge
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The West Grand Avenue approach to the Bay Bridge in Oakland was closed Tuesday afternoon because of a gas leak, according to PG&E and Oakland police.
The leak was reported at 1:15 p.m. on Maritime Street near Burma Road, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said.
A third-party construction crew was digging in the area and knocked over a pole. That pole hit an exposed 3/8-inch steel gas line that comes up from the ground and attaches to a device that records pipeline pressure, Ehlers said.
The line leaked gas until crews were able to cap it around 2:45 p.m., she said.
According to Oakland police, West Grand Avenue reopened around 3:20 p.m.
