Gas Shut Off After Line Ruptured On Harrison Street; Evacuations Cancelled
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The rupture of an 8-inch gas line by a construction crew on the 1500 block of Harrison Street in San Francisco led to evacuations for about a half an hour, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
Police and firefighters were ringing doorbells and evacuating buildings on Harrison between 11th Street and Norfolk Street, the fire department said.
The department's Twitter account posted about the gas leak and evacuations at about 12:48 p.m.
Authorities later confirmed that a construction crew had struck and 8-inch gas line at the location of the incident. PG&E crews have responded to the scene and there were no injuries reported as of shortly after 1 p.m.
People were being asked to avoid the area.
At around 1:15 p.m., SFFD announced that the gas had been shut off and buildings in the area would be repopulated. The block of Harrison between 11th and Norfolk was expected to be closed for another hour. Drivers should expect delays in the area.
Crews remained on the scene Tuesday afternoon, working to repair the line. At least one business remains affected, according to PG&E.
