French TV Shamed For Live-Tweeting Chris Brown Was Hosting Oscars For Nearly Half-Hour

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- There were some pretty embarrassing cases of mistaken identity on Twitter during Saturday night's Academy Awards show.

This year's show was already stained by the #OscarsSoWhite backlash and a call for blacks to boycott because the Academy had failed to recognize the works of African-Americans. Apparently, some journalists can't recognize African-Americans either.

The Oscar goes to FranceTV. The French television station live-tweeted Chris Brown was hosting the show and "denouncing racism in the U.S."

It took a half-hour for the French channel to realize their faux-pas, but by then, their followers were already laughing at them.

Hugo Capelli tweeted, "Ok, sixth tweet from FranceTVInfo saying Chris Brown when is is obviously Chris Rock! Oscar for the best Community Manager of the night.

The second Oscar goes to the website, Total Beauty for mistaking Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah Winfrey.

Sure their intentions were golden when they tweeted, "We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it."

Oprah had no idea she was tatted either. LOL. The company issued an apology, but it was too late. The hashtag #ThatsNotOprah was already trending.

Later, Oprah's bestie Gayle King posted of photo of Oprah and her "favorite daughter" on Instagram watching the Oscars, with the caption, "We all love @WhoopiGoldberg but we don't all look alike Jeeeze!

All of the offending tweets were deleted, but their timing couldn't have been worse.
