Fremont Postal Worker Accused Of Stealing Smartphones, Other Items
FREMONT (KCBS) — A U.S. postal service worker in Fremont is facing mail theft charges, according to court records.
Romeo Moog Talag, 56, of Hayward is accused of stealing high-end smartphones and phone parts that were supposed to be delivered to customers, according to a complaint filed this week in U.S. District Court in Oakland.
According to a report the San Francisco Chronicle, Talag has worked for the postal service for 16 years.
The postal service inspector general said the investigation began nearly two years ago after employees at the Irvington Post Office in Fremont found some packages that had been reported missing.
A search of Talag's home and cars turned up a number of phones, parts and other stolen items, according to the affidavit
Talag is the second Bay Area postal worker in six months accused of stealing mail.
Last June, Quan Howard, a San Jose postal inspector, was arrested and charged with stealing mail, including Playboy magazines, passports and marijuana.
Howard,53, has pleaded not guilty in that case.
