Fremont Police Beef Up Patrol After Stranger Offers Ride To 10-Year-Old Boy
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Police in Fremont plan to increase patrols around an elementary school after an unknown man in a car offered a 10-year-old boy walking in the area a ride home Friday afternoon.
The boy was walking home from Hirsch Elementary School around 4p.m. when a man in a car parked on Carol Avenue near Chapel Way asked if he wanted a ride home, according to police.
The boy became scared and ran home and officers were called to the area but were unable to locate the man.
The suspect car is described as a blue, older-model four-door sedan with rust and the man is described only as a Hispanic or Indian man who is about 30 years old with black hair styled into a spike, police said.
Police said that while the intentions of the man involved in this incident are unknown, it's an opportunity for parents to talk to their children about "stranger danger" awareness.
Parents are advised to educate their kids about the difference between a good and a bad stranger, making sure their children know their name, address and a phone number, including a parents' cellphone, and avoiding walking by themselves, among other tips.
Fremont residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to police and to call 911 in the case of a crime in progress.
