Fremont Police Arrest Man After Home Invasion Robbery, Sexual Assault
FREMONT (CBS SF) — Fremont police have arrested a man after he allegedly broke into a home Sunday morning, tied up a mother and daughter and raping one of them before making off with some items.
"This is a horrific, horrific crime. These women had a life changing experience," Geneva Bosques of the Fremont Police Department told KPIX 5.
Investigators said the suspect hid inside the home in the 41000 block of Paseo Padre Parkway and waited for the pair to return. When the daughter entered her bedroom, she was accosted by the man who reportedly pointed a shotgun at her and tied her up. The mother was also tied up and moved to a separate room where she was sexually assaulted.
"He was well equipped. He had items with him and he was prepared for this. He had a firearm, he had duct tape, he was masked and gloved up, he had thought about this," Bosques said.
A short time later, a male resident arrived home and the suspect fled. Police, however, were able to use video surveillance to track down 34-year-old Jamala Morris at his Fremont home. They said they recovered items there that linked him to the crime and that he later confessed to it.
"This is that person who we all fear, that we know is out there. And this person was living in our community and it's very scary," Bosques said.
Morris has prior felony convictions and was on felony probation at the time. He now faces several charges including: rape, kidnapping, robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
"It was very methodical, planned out. Makes us think he has likely done this before," Bosques said.
