Fremont Poison Gas Suicide Prompts Hazmat Response
FREMONT (KCBS) — A woman's apparent suicide in Fremont prompted a response from hazardous material crews, according to authorities.
Fremont Police said a woman committed suicide by releasing a toxic substance inside her car which was in a parking garage at Civic Center and Walnut Avenues.
Earlier, a man called 911 after he said he found his wife in the back seat of her car.
"In the car with her is a small container of liquid and there's a handwritten note on the window that says poisonous gas," said Police Detective Bill Veteran.

Investigators determined the substance inside the car was hydrogen sulfide. Because toxic materials were involved, the fire department has declared a hazardous materials scene, although Veteran said the impact was minimal.
"We haven't evacuated. No one has been asked to shelter in place at this point and we are probably going to be out here for a while," Veteran said.
The incident occurred across the street from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Washington Hospital and the Fremont BART station.
Fremont Police said the incident would be investigated as a suspicious death.
