Fremont Officials Have Big Plans For Area Around Old NUMMI Plant
FREMONT, (KCBS) - As 2011 approaches, Fremont officials will be closely examining different concepts at redeveloping the acres and acres around the old NUMMI plant. Tesla, the electric car maker, only occupies a small portion of the available land.
Ideas include using the vast site for businesses, technology companies or housing.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
Fremont's Vice Mayor Sue Chan said she'd like to see all three.
"I think that it's possible to do all of it," she said. "Have the commercial, the industrial, the manufacturing, and yet also have some housing."
Chan said the site is in a perfect location, between two major freeways, with a new Warm Springs BART station scheduled to open in 2014.
