2 Injured, Suspects Detained, In Shooting On I-80 In Richmond
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Police in Richmond have detained three people in connection with a freeway shooting on eastbound I-80 that left two injured -- with one victim in critical condition -- on Thursday afternoon.
The shooting was first reported at about 3:41 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80 at the San Pablo Avenue exit, according to authorities. Traffic in the eastbound direction was stopped for nearly five hours during an investigation with lanes being reopened shortly before 9 p.m.
Witnesses told police people in a silver Dodge Charger opened fire on a couple in a minivan. A man in the minivan was shot five times, with bullets striking him in his head and chest. A woman in the van was shot in her hand.
One of the victims was airlifted to John Muir Hospital. Authorities confirmed that this appeared to be a targeted shooting.
The investigation forced closure of all eastbound lanes of I-80 for almost five hours and traffic was at a standstill from the San Pablo exit to the Bay Bridge.
The incident was the fourth shooting on a Bay Area freeway in the last two weeks.
