San Francisco Student Facing Deportation Returns Home
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A San Francisco City College student, who came within hours of being deported, said he will continue to fight for undocumented students like himself.
Steve Li returned to San Francisco after spending more than two months at a detention center in Arizona.
He said he is grateful for the intervention of Senator Dianne Feinstein, who introduced an immigration bill on his behalf.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
Li's parents were arrested back in September when Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers told them their visas had expired and their case for asylum had been denied.

Li had thought for years that he was in the country legally.
"I was definitely shocked and confused. I didn't know what to think," Li said. "I got separated from my mom. I couldn't ask any questions. They didn't tell me anything. They just searched me, threw me in the car and handcuffed me."
Li's status is still in limbo, but he is hoping the Dream Act will be passed by Congress. It would allow undocumented students like himself to remain in this country.
