Free Parking Could Vanish On Palo Alto Streets
PALO ALTO (KCBS) – The city of Palo Alto is looking to free up parking spaces downtown and one possible solution could be putting an end to the city's famously free curbside parking.
There is good and bad to parking in Palo Alto. The good is that street parking is free almost anywhere you go; the bad is the shrinking availability of parking spaces around town.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
That has prompted the Palo Alto City Council to order an update of its 15-year-old parking policies, which may mean some type of metered parking is on the horizon.
Freddy Jackson, who regularly parks on University Avenue, disagrees that parking is limited.
"It's not hard parking around here. Paying for it, that would put a damper on things," he said. "But then I would wonder, they're raising this revenue, what are they going to do with it?"
Metered parking is opposed by many downtown businesses. Many residents are for it, saying they're tired of shoppers and students making it difficult to park near their homes.
