Fraternity Pledge Sues UC Davis Over Hazing
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- A University of California, Davis graduate is suing the university for ignoring his complaints of hazing and sexual abuse while pledging a fraternity.
Ryan Clifford's lawsuit was filed in Sacramento. It says he was punched, stripped naked, molested and forced to drink large quantities of alcohol while pledging the Chi Delta chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi in fall 2008.
Clifford's lawsuit contends he was targeted for a particularly harsh form of hazing because he was one of the few non-Jewish students pledging the Jewish fraternity.
His lawyer, Lisa Holder, says Clifford told UC Davis officials several times of the alleged hazing but that nothing was done.
UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi said the school will take appropriate action if allegations of hazing were not properly investigated or handled.
