Giants Fan Who Gave Up Historic NLCS Home Run Ball To Toss 1st Pitch At World Series Game 3
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco Giants fan who caught the historic home run ball that launched the team into the World Series - only to return it the player who hit it - is getting the good karma back to him in a big way.
Frank Burke was set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Game 3 of the World Series Friday at AT&T Park in San Francisco, according to the team, the latest perk for the Stanislaus County resident and lifelong Giants fan.
Burke hauled in Travis Ishikawa's walk-off, pennant-winning blast in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. He said he wanted Ishikawa to have the ball which could have commanded a steep price on the memorabilia market.
In return he received an autographed bat from Ishikawa and later the Giants provided him with World Series tickets.
Friday, Burke will stroll onto the mound before Game 3 to deliver the ceremonial first pitch before the 5:07 p.m. start time.
The Giants and Kansas City Royals are tied 1-1 in the World Series. Games 3, 4, and 5 will be played at AT&T Park.
If necessary, Games 6 and 7 will be played back in Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
