France Train Attack Hero Spencer Stone Stabbed, In Stable Condition

SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) — The U.S. Air Force airman who was injured when he and two friends tackled a heavily armed gunman on a Paris-bound train was stabbed in Sacramento early Thursday morning.

Sacramento Police Deputy Chief Ken Bernard said at a news conference Thursday Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone was stabbed multiple times and had significant injuries but they were not life-threatening.

Bernard said investigators determined the attack was not a terrorist act and not related to the incident in France.

Bernard said Stone was with a group of friends who got into a confrontation with another group outside of a bar at 21st and K Streets in midtown Sacramento.

According to CBS News, Stone was stabbed four times and suffered one wound to the heart and another to his left lung. CBS News later reported he was out of surgery and in stable condition with a collapsed left lung in addition to multiple stab wounds.

The owner of a liquor provided police with video of the incident and it appears show five to six men in a group attacking someone in an intersection.

Bernard said investigators were searching for two Asian men who fled in a dark-colored 2009 to 2012 Toyota Camry.

Police said they don't know if Stone was drinking alcohol, but others in his group were.
