France Demands $1.7 Billion In Back Taxes From Google
MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- French officials say Google owes more than 1.6 billion Euros in back taxes. That is the equivalent of about $1.76 billion.
An minister from the finance ministry told Agence France Press the exact amount the Mountain View-based company will actually pay to settle the debt is subject to "fiscal confidentiality."
Last month, Google reached a $181 million tax settlement with Britian.
Google and other multinational tech companies like Amazon and Facebook have been accused of not paying their fair share of taxes in Europe by setting up their tax base in countries like Ireland where rates are lower.
