Former Peninsula Bank Teller Gets Jail For Stealing From Aunt, Teen
REDWOOD CITY (AP) -- A former Redwood City bank teller has been sentenced to a year in jail for stealing $40,000 from her elderly aunt and the $33,000 inheritance of motherless teenager.
A San Mateo County judge on Wednesday also placed 29-year-old Arcelia Barajas Aguilar on five years' probation and ordered the Redwood City woman to pay restitution.
Aguilar pleaded no contest last summer to felony grand theft and felony elder fiscal abuse.
Prosecutors said she fraudulently obtained her job as a teller at a San Mateo Credit Union branch by using her mother's Social Security number.
In June 2009, she took $33,000 from a 16-year-old girl's account. The following month, she took $40,000 from her 74-year-old aunt's account.
Prosecutors said she used the money to pay down credit card debt.
