Former Danville Woman, Ex-BART Cop Die In North Carolina Murder-Suicide
HOLLY SPRING, NC (CBS SF) - A former Pleasanton couple is dead in an apparent murder-suicide in their North Carolina home, according to authorities.
Published reports said 38-year-old Robert Seymore fatally shot his wife, 38-year-old Amber Seymore in the head Monday morning and then turned the weapon on himself.
Robert Seymore was a former Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer and Amber Seymore, formerly Amber Harris, was originally from Danville and graduated from Monte Vista High School, according to the Pleasanton Patch.
NC police spokesman Mark Andrews did not confirm who shot whom. But officers said Amber Seymore had called police Nov. 23 to file a domestic violence complaint against her husband.
According to CBS affiliate WRAL, Amber Seymore wanted officers at the couple's home as a precautionary measure when Robert was moving out of the home.
Amber Seymore had called 9-1-1 the day after Thanksgiving to request police protection because she was going to kick her husband after discovering he was engaged in an affair, according to the Raleigh, NC News & Observer. On that 9-1-1 call, Amber Seymore told a dispatcher, "He has a gun on him and a really bad temper," she said.
Robert Seymore returned sometime Monday morning, police said, and the shootings happened after a domestic dispute between the couple about 9 a.m., WRAL reported.
The couple had lived in the neighborhood for about 18 months.
The bodies were found by Amber Seymore's mother who had gone to the house to tell her daughter she was taking her grandchild to day care, according to the Raleigh, News & Observer. The couple had three young children, according to the report.
In the 911 call made a few minutes later after the discovery of the bodies, Amber Seymore's mother told the dispatcher that her son-in-law was responsible for the shootings.
"My son-in-law killed her," said the woman, whose name has not been released. "He killed her. She's dead.'
The report said Amber Seymore's mother was hysterical as she told the dispatcher that her son-in-law had a gun and was a retired police officer.
"He's laying on the floor," she told the dispatcher. "They're not moving, neither one of them. I got the baby. I think they're both dead."
Two older children, ages 6 and 8, were in elementary school at the time, police told the News & Observer.
According to BART, Robert Seymore retired from his job as a canine officer in March of 2011 after working there for almost 10 years.
BART Police released a short statement: "Our prayers go out to the family; this is a tragic and unfortunate incident" and said the agency is offering grief counseling to its employees.
