Former 49er Kwame Harris Arrested In SF; Charged With Hit And Run, DUI And Aggravated Assault
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Kwame Harris was taken into custody Sunday night on a variety of charges, including hit-and-run, according to police.
SFPD spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan told KCBS that officers were flagged down near 14th Street and South Van Ness at around 7:30 p.m. by a person reporting an incapacitated driver. They eventually found a man passed out in a black Audi sedan with the engine still running.
Gatpandan said the suspect appeared to be high on drugs, eventually became agitated and even tried to bite one of the officers. The officer was not injured. Gatpandan said officers eventually took 33-year-old Harris into custody.
Investigators later learned that Harris was allegedly behind the wheel of the same Audi when it collided with a car at Hyde and Broadway, and an RV on the 1700 block of Harrison Street.
Harris now faces charges for driving under the influence, hit, and run and aggravated assault.
Harris was previously convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence charges in connection with an attack on a former boyfriend back in August of 2012.
He was drafted by the 49ers in 2003, and played five seasons for San Francisco, before signing a deal with the Raiders, where he played one season before retiring from football.
